Farmer Balances Work and School

LifeTech Academy understands that every family is unique. Understanding how education fits into each Learner’s lifestyle is part of the culture. Flexibility and individual goal setting has helped numerous Learners achieve success in school and beyond, including recent graduate Clyde Hawbaker. 

“I found out about LifeTech from a few friends that had enrolled and said I should be considering it because I can work at my own pace and have more opportunities to do other things,” said Clyde. 

As a farmer flexibility was very important to Clyde. Juggling work and school was something that Clyde discussed with his mentor each week, helping him stay focused and on track. 

“A typical day for me at LifeTech was getting up in the morning at 4:30 to work, coming back home at 8 to work on school for 2-3 hours then finishing out the day with odd jobs around the farm. Even if I had the tasks I needed to get done I worked ahead in my courses and finished two months earlier which benefited me greatly.”

Clyde will be attending Montcalm Community College this fall. He looks forward to studying welding and hopes to find work in his hometown Westphalia when he is finished.
